Warranty: 1 Year Cover Against Manufacturing Defects

Last updated

Every rack we sell is covered for 12 months against manufacturing defects — the frame, the beams and the shelf panels. This page explains exactly what that means, what falls outside it, and how to make a claim.

Cover period
12 months (1 year) from the date of delivery or collection.
What it covers
Defects in manufacture, materials and finish on the frame, beams and shelf panels.
The remedy
Repair, or replacement of the defective part.
Applies to
Every rack we supply, whether delivered or self-collected.

What is covered

This is a defects warranty. It covers faults that were built into the rack rather than caused afterwards — structural defects in the steelwork and defects in the protective finish:

  • Frames and uprights — cracked welds, split steel, or a frame that is out of true from manufacture.
  • Beams and connectors — hooks or connectors that do not seat correctly because of a manufacturing fault.
  • Shelf panels — panels that arrive warped, split, or cut to the wrong size.
  • Powder-coated finish — coating that flakes, blisters or peels on its own on a rack used indoors.
  • Missing or faulty fittings in the pack as it was supplied.

What is not covered

The warranty does not cover damage the rack did not leave us with. That means: loading beyond the rated capacity of a shelf; rust from outdoor, wet or persistently damp placement; modification of any kind, including cutting, drilling or welding; ordinary wear such as scratches, chips and scuffs; and accidental damage, impact or misuse.

Racks assembled incorrectly are also outside the warranty — a beam that is not fully seated will eventually fail under load, and that is an assembly problem rather than a defect. Our step-by-step assembly guide shows the correct order and the checks that prevent it.

Covered or not — at a glance

Warranty coverage by rack component, showing what is included and what is excluded
Component Covered Not covered
Frames and uprights Cracked welds, split or deformed steel present from manufacture Bending caused by overloading or by an impact
Beams and connectors Beam hooks that will not seat correctly because of a manufacturing fault Damage from forcing a beam into the wrong slot
Shelf panels Panels that arrive warped, split or cut to the wrong size Sagging from a load beyond the rated capacity
Powder-coated finish Coating that flakes, blisters or peels on its own Scratches, chips and scuffs from handling or use
Rust and corrosion Corrosion traced to a coating defect on an indoor rack Rust from outdoor, wet, or persistently damp placement
Fittings supplied with the rack Missing or faulty parts in the pack as delivered Parts you have modified, drilled, cut or welded

How to make a claim

  1. Stop using the affected bay

Unload the shelf or bay in question. A defect that is still carrying weight can get worse, and an unloaded rack is safer to photograph and to repair.

  2. Send us your order details and photographs

Email hello@storeroomrack.com with your name, order number or delivery date, a close photograph of the defect, and a wider photograph showing the whole rack in place. Tell us what the shelf was carrying when you noticed the problem.

  3. We assess the claim

We review the photographs and may ask a few questions, or ask to see the part. If the defect is covered we tell you what we will do about it.

  4. Repair or replacement

We repair the fault or supply a replacement for the defective part. Racks are boltless, so a single frame, beam or panel can normally be swapped without dismantling the whole run.

What the remedy is

Where a claim is accepted, we repair the defect or replace the defective part. The warranty covers the part itself; it does not extend to anything stored on the rack, or to loss of use. Replacement parts carry the remainder of the original warranty period rather than starting a new one.

Keeping your warranty valid

  • Assemble the rack as supplied, with every beam fully seated in its slot.
  • Keep loads within the rated capacity of the shelf, and spread weight across the shelf rather than piling it in the middle.
  • Use the rack indoors, on a level floor, away from standing water.
  • Do not cut, drill, weld or otherwise modify any part of the rack.
  • Keep your order confirmation — it is the proof of the delivery date.

Damage discovered when the rack arrives is handled as a delivery issue and should be reported within two days — see the return policy. If you have not ordered yet and want to check what your intended load needs, send us your measurements through the rack quotation form and we will size it for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the warranty and when does it start?

Every rack carries 12 months of cover against manufacturing defects, running from the date the rack is delivered or collected. Keep your order confirmation — the delivery date on it is what we use to check the period. Delivery dates and collection arrangements are set out in our delivery and shipping policy.

What do I need to send you to make a claim?

Your order details — name, order number or delivery date — plus clear photographs of the defective part, and a wider shot showing the rack as it is installed and loaded. The wide shot matters: it tells us quickly whether the problem is a defect or a loading issue. Send it all to us through the contact page and we will come back to you.

Does the warranty cover rust?

It covers corrosion that traces back to a coating defect on a rack used indoors, as intended. It does not cover rust caused by putting the rack outdoors, in the rain, or in a permanently wet area — steel shelving is not built for that. If you need racking for a damp store or a covered yard, tell us before you order and see the rack types we can supply.

Is my rack still covered if I overload a shelf?

No. Loading a shelf beyond its rated capacity is the single most common reason a claim is declined, and a bent beam from overloading is not a manufacturing defect. Spread heavy items across the shelf rather than stacking them at the centre, and keep the heaviest items low. Our heavy duty racking guide explains safe loading in more detail.

What is the difference between the warranty and the return policy?

The warranty covers a manufacturing defect that appears while you are using the rack, and the remedy is a repair or a replacement part. A return is for an item you no longer want, or one that arrived wrong, and has a seven-day window from delivery. Both are explained on the return policy page.
